The beginning

Rhode Island is a state of innovation, connection, and potential. With a rich history, a commitment to education and service, a deep connection to the environment and environmental innovation, and a diverse community of residents, the Ocean State is an incredible place to live, work, learn, and explore.

Compete RI began in 2022 to highlight the amazing attributes of our state and bring communities together to unlock possibilities. When we come together, there is nothing stopping Rhode Island.

In two years, Rhode Island’s cities and towns, municipalities, agencies, entities, and higher education institutions have joined with Compete RI to connect with each other and strategize on our state’s future. They have seized funding opportunities made possible through federal grants and funding, and collaborated to raise the pro le of our great state.

The now

Compete RI’s work continues and evolves as we serve as a convener, connector, and collaborator — bringing entities together across our state, and across the country.

Rhode Island is a place for progress and we’re focused on highlighting that.

With national recognition from the White House for our best-in-practice approach to federal funding, we continue to assist partners as they apply for grants and federal funds. We’re also expanding our work with towns and cities to build their capacity and work more efficiently. In partnership with local and national associations, Compete RI hosted events and forums for community-based organizations and nonprofits on applying for funding, workforce development, and diversity, equity and inclusion initiatives.

The smallest state in the union is ready to shine and lead the way for others, demonstrating how powerful a place can be when entities unite and work together.

Compete RI and our partners will continue our work on building capacity for towns, cities and organizations across the state, and focus on environmental justice, and increasing equity and access for all Rhode Islanders.

We are proud that Compete RI has become a model for partner organizations across the country, and we are excited to continue to exchange ideas and best practices. As Rhode Island comes together, we become stronger.
